The Philosophical Definition Of Democracy

“Democracy” is a difficult term to define. What one person defines as an “ideal case” another person refutes as not representative of democracy in the slightest bit. The term has been modified throughout history to fit the diverse forms of government that have titled themselves a democracy and has wavered significantly from its philosophical ideal. Democracy literally means “government by the people” and in Athens the demos were the poorer people.
