Tv Violence

What has the world come to these days It often seems like everywhere one looks, violence rears its ugly head. We see it in the streets, back alleys, school, and even at home. The last of these is a major source of violence. In many people?s living rooms, there sits an outlet for violence that often goes unnoticed. It is the television, and the children who view it are often pulled into its realistic world of violence scenes with sometimes devastating results.
Much research has gone into showing why children are so mesmerized by this big glowing box and the action that takes place within it. Research shows that it is definitely a major source of violent behavior in children. The research proves time and time again that aggression and television viewing do go hand in hand.
The truth about television violence and children has been shown. Some are trying to fight this problem. Others are ignoring it and hoping it will go away. Still others do not even seem to care. However, the facts are undeniable. The studies have been carried out and all the results point to one

National Socialism

National Socialism

Hitler?s Nazism

Adolph Hitler once said to his chief of staff Otto Wagener, ?Jewish Volk is the parasitic race among the human races. Jewry always marches as those who live as parasites-that is, who are intent on having others work for them, so that they can lead a carefree existence. This is why we must discard of them as quickly as we can, so they do not feed off of us any more? (Turner, page 205). Adolph Hitler is the main reason why the world has National Socialism. National Socialism is a form of racism, or most commonly called Nazism (Tonser, page 15).
To understand National Socialism, you first need to be aware of the history of it. The first origins of National Socialism came from the after effects of World War I. Hitler was a fierce fighter in the fighting of World War I and played a big part in the war (Encarta Encyclopedia). After the war, Germany was charged with the sole responsibility for the war. Germany?s political and economical life was seriously disrupted as a result of this. Then in 1919 the German Workers? Party was formed. Hitler did

Viral Pneumonia

Viral Pneumonia

Viral respiratory tract infections are the most common cause of symptomatic human disease among children and adults. They account for more time lost from school and work than any other infection. These infections may cause a wide variety of diseases, from the common cold to severe pneumonia, and may result in death. Pneumonia is an infection or inflammation of the lungs. It can be in just one part of the lungs, or it can involve many parts. Bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microorganisms cause pneumonia. The severity of pneumonia depends on which organism is causing the infection. Viral pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs caused by infection with a virus. Viral pneumonia is a subset of the pneumonitides, which were at one time called atypical pneumonias (Hull, 1989). Viral pneumonias are usually not very serious, but they can be life threatening.
The incidence of viral pneumonia has increased during the past decade. The increase primarily is because of improved diagnostic techniques and the growing population of patients who are immunocompromised (Dreher, 1997). In the past, the diagnosis of viral pneumonia was made essentially on clinical grounds. All pneumonias were labeled atypical if a bacterial pathogen could not be identified with

As sport becomes an ever-more popular entertainment medium for TV and radio broadcasters, sponsorship becomes an ever more popular way for large corporations to market themselves: it is a very effective way of associating their brand or identity with the values represented by a particular sport. As professional sport becomes increasingly driven by money (players demanding high wages, equipment needing to be the latest technological advance) then sponsors seem to be the only way to provide the cash necessary to keep the sport running to the standards that TV viewers demand. Cholesterol

Cholesterol

A certain amount of cholesterol is essential to health, but too much can contribute to disease, heart attacks, and strokes (Jacoby, 310).
Cholesterol is a soft, waxy, substance found among the lipids (fats) in the bloodstream (About Cholesterol). It is used to help digest fats (Cholesterol).
There are two types of cholesterol. The first one is Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL) and High Density Lipoproteins (HDL) (Cholesterol). LDL cholesterol, also known as the ?bad? cholesterol, builds up and clots bloodstream in the walls of your arteries (Cholesterol). HDL cholesterol, or the ?good? cholesterol, removes LDL cholesterol to the liver where it is metabolized (Cholesterol).
There are many different causes of high cholesterol. One of the causes is some diseases and medications (High Cholesterol?). Another cause is a combination of diet and genetic foods (High Cholesterol?). Inactive lifestyle, gaining a lot of weight, and a high fat diet are some other causes to look out for (High Cholesterol?). Also, some livers cannot handle even a moderate amount of saturated fat and cholesterol intake well (High Cholesterol?). High intakes of saturated fat and cholesterol are linked to high blood cholesterol, which in turn is linked to increase risk of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) (Help

Amanda McDonald
Television Violence, Not a Major Problem
Television violence may by an issue, maybe even a small factor in some crimes, but it is not the major cause for the violence in our streets. Some television shows have a lot of violence, but it is the parents job to explain to their kids that television is make believe and should not be acted out. Violence on television should not be an acceptable excuse for crimes that people commit. People blame television because they have no one else to point the finger at. Parents should play a major role in their children?s life, because the society we live in today has almost come to accept violence as normal.
Some television shows are not suitable for all audiences, but it is the parents? job to set guidelines about what they can and can not watch. Shows like ?Southpark? are not suitable for young children, but kids believe that since it is a cartoon it is O.K. for them to watch. Until children are old enough to understand the difference between real and make-believe, they should be limited to certain shows they can watch. Late night shows are

Is Police Brutality Common in New York

Is Police Brutality Common in New York

Police brutality has grown greatly through out the United States of America over the past decade. Since the Amadou Diallo shooting in New York City it seems that every day there is a new person being abused by ?New York?s Finest.? Concerned citizens all over the country are now wondering has police brutality common Ever since the beating of Rodney King and the riots that took place afterwards there has been a serious backdrop to Americas ideas on race. When people in law enforcement ?act without integrity and without regard for peoples rights, they lose credibility and legitimacy in the eyes of the people.? I, myself, really don?t understand why police officers abuse some of the criminals and lose their temper so easily. Could it be because they overwork Do they not know what they are doing Do they think they can take advantage of civilians just because they have the badge and suit on These are some of the questions that remain to be answered, but if you think about it no matter what, the abuse has to stop. Police officers are here to protect us and maintain order. We shouldn?t have to be afraid of them

Cuban Cinema

Cinema in Cuba

The film industry changed dramatically after the revolution. Before Batista?s dictatorship was overthrown, Cuban cinema faced many difficulties. The United States had a very strong influence on the films being made, as many of the movies were actually filmed in the in the U.S.. Many Cubans found the movies being made as another country?s perspective of Cuba, and came to resent the false portrayals. The U.S. and Mexico mostly controlled everything from production to distribution of the films. Despite this, movies were still extremely popular for the Cubans that had access to them. However, those who live in rural areas did not have the option of seeing movies. The true boom for Cuban film occurred when the revolution was over and Castro had overthrown the Batista dictatorship. Three months after this occurred, the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry, also known as the ICAIC, was founded. This institute was vital for the movie industry in Cuba. Cas!

Self-mutilation

Self-mutilation

The reason I chose this topic is because my boyfriend?s daughter, who is 15 years old, is

a self-mutilator. She has been secretly doing this for about one and half years before we

found out. How we found out is that we seen the scrapes and scars on her arm. When

asked about them, at first she denied doing such a thing to herself. While I was

straightening her room one day, I came across a letter that she had written to a classmate

stating that she had cut herself with a razor blade that she had gotten from her own razor.

When confronted, Jessica had no choice but to confess to do doing such a horrible act.

She said the reasoning why she cut herself was because it relieved the pain and anger that

she had.

I wanted to learn more about this issue to see what could be done and to try and

understand why someone with doing such horrific things to themselves. What I have

learned thus far is heart-wrenching.

This topic has been one that has remained quiet for some time. Some psychologists

would claim that self-mutilation is an attention-seeking
