Patch Adams

Patch Adams

Robin Williams brings to life the true story of Patch Adams, a non-conformist doctor who is on a mission to reform the medical system. ? Patch Adams? starts from his days as a mental patient and ends with graduation from medical school. The beauty of this film is that it takes us on an emotional journey that is fun and touching, even if it?s heavy-handed at times. This was a great movie because of the cast of characters, the great story telling and the comedic and emotional aspect
? Patch Adams? was so enjoyable because it was a perfect film for actor/comedian Robin Williams. The comedic moments given to Williams are wildly funny. One of the most delightful moments was when Patch went into the children?s ward of the hospital and began to turn on his ?Robin Williams? humor. The kids immediately lightened up and found a haven from their sick plight. Robin Williams also shone when he delivered a flawless performance of his characters dramatic side of the movie. At the films? climax he was brought before the medical board with charges of practicing medicine without a license. Williams?s delivered an impassioned speech

Independent Farming Verses Working For An Agribusiness Company

Independent Farming Versus Working for an Agribusiness Company

Majoring in Agriculture gives one the opportunity to make a career decision to choose to be an independent farmer or to join a noted agribusiness company. One will have to consider the pro?s of owning a farm and working for a noted agribusiness company. On the hand, both career choices have con?s as well. Due to the importance of the decision, one will have to take time to make the best possible choice for the individual.
Looking at a career as an independent farmer, one will have the opportunity to own a farm and not have to work for someone else. Owning a farm gives one a material object to leave to other family members. One will not have to answer to others, when making a business decision. When purchasing and operating a farm, one will have to make financially pressing decisions. However all the of the opportunities that come with along with the job of being an independent farmer, will give the farmer the motivation to work harder and be successful.

Reality Shows

Reality Is Immorality

?Uh, Mom and Dad, would you maybe like to pick out a set of gorgeous twins for me to date Oh yeah and we?ll do it on national television.? Even five years ago this type of television would have been unacceptable. Currently, it?s called reality. Wait, reality Yes folks, this is America?s twisted minds at work here. A show actually exists where two parents choose twins for their son to date at the same time. Sounds more like a sexual fantasy to me. American television should not portray relationships or marriage as a game, but instead take them seriously.
Still people everywhere are seemingly addicted to the sudden flood of relationship reality 1shows that have plagued the nation over the last few years. What is so interesting about reality shows that captures our attention and glues us to the television so well It must be the brilliant minds at FOX television network, working day and night to provide America with wholesome, quality entertainment. I doubt it. The last episode of ?Joe Millionaire? brought in over seventy million viewers. Perhaps it is simply the sadistic side

Overview Of Corporate Social Responsibility

Overview Of Corporate Social Responsibility

Introduction
A variety of terms are used – sometimes interchangeably – to talk about corporate social responsibility (CSR): business ethics, corporate citizenship, corporate accountability, sustainability. BSR defines corporate social responsibility as ?achieving commercial success in ways that honor ethical values and respect people, communities, and the natural environment.? We also say that CSR means addressing the legal, ethical, commercial and other expectations society has for business, and making decisions that fairly balance the claims of all key stakeholders. In its simplest terms it is: ?what you do, how you do it, and when and what you say.?
In this sense, CSR is viewed as a comprehensive set of policies, practices and programs that are integrated into business operations, supply chains, and decision-making processes throughout the company – wherever the company does business – and includes responsibility for current and past actions as well as future impacts. The issues that represent a company?s CSR focus vary by business, by size, by sector and even by geographic region. In its broadest categories, CSR typically includes issues related to: business ethics, community investment, environment, governance, human rights, marketplace and workplace. (See other BSR reports on each of these topics).

How Can Students be Motivated to Stay in School

How Can Students be Motivated to Stay in School

How can students be motivated to stay in school

First of all, I think the students should be motivated mainly by their parents and then by their teachers. Parents should motivate their children by telling them how being a high-school graduate will help them in life. The parent may mention how being a high-school graduate helped them or how they were hurt by being a high-school drop-out.
Teachers can help motivate students by making school fun along with the teaching of the regular lessons. Teachers could also invite various people that graduated from high-school and some that were drop-outs to tell their own personal story. This may help students see the reality of being a high-school graduate or that being a high school drop-out can seriously affect that persons life.
Another thing that should be taken into consideration is that when a parent or teacher is talking to their child or student, the parent or teacher should not focus all on negative ideas. If they focus on negative ideas, and say such things as, ?If you dont finish school then……,? then the child could be demotivated instead of being motivated. Parents and teachers should focus mainly on the positive ideas

Citizen Kane

Citizen Kane

The 1941 groundbreaking drama Citizen Kane, by Orson Welles, proved to extend far beyond the sum of its original worth. The audiences of the time never fully grasped the deeper meaning behind the story and as a result it suffered financially. However, today amidst all the visual effects and CGI thrown into almost every movie, Citizen Kane still holds the bar for its ability to tell a story within the story. The aspects of the movie that intrigue this avid moviegoer are the ways in which Welles is able to manipulate the film and the lighting in order to produce a cinematographic wonder. His ability to create new camera shots and tell us something about the characters just by their placement within the scene and the angles in which they were filmed gives you an insight to his character?s development without having to say a word. And, in comparison to other movies of its time, Citizen Kane consciously moved in a different direction, pushing the boundaries of filming and the capturing of the audiences? perception.
One of the finest examples in which Welles boasts his complete control over the medium of film is in the very beginning of the movie.

Does America Need A Federal Hate-crime Law

Does America Need A Federal Hate-crime Law

Does America need a federal hate-crime law

According to the United States Department of Justice, ?Hate crime is the violence of intolerance and bigotry, intended to hurt and intimidate someone because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religious, sexual orientation, or disability.? (5)
Many think hate crimes are acts that are committed today, but these crimes held an important part in world history. The Nazis? killing of the Jews was a hate crime. The Holocaust was manifested by hate and that hate was carried out by killing those that were hated.
There are many hate crimes that aren?t even noticed. The public hears the stories that result in death or severe assault. One such story is the Matthew Shepard case. Here was a young man that was having problems with his sexual orientation. He knew that he was gay, and only wanted to live his life without fear. He went out one evening and was friendly to a couple of men at a bar. Matt was unaware that these men were homophobic. The men took him to a place, tied him to a fence and beat him to death. The

Nature Vs. Nurture

Nature Vs. Nurture

There is a continuing debate about the factors that contribute most strongly to human development. In sociology and psychology this debate centers on the nature vs. nature viewpoints of human development. Which argument is stronger Let?s look at them both and see. If a person believes totally in the nurture theory, they argue that a newborn baby is a ?tabula rosa,? (Latin term that means blank tablet). As such, onto this blank tablet, all values, behaviors, developmental processes, are written into the baby?s mind by the infant?s environment, and this is how we all learn.
However, critics of the nurture theory argue that if you go to a hospital nursery viewing area, you will notice that each newborn is not the same as the others. Some of the babies will have their eyes open, and others will be asleep most of the time. Others will cry incessantly, yet another may have to be woken up just to get fed. These people conclude that there must be some genetics involved in personality development (Lewontin, Rose, & Kamin 1984).
Where the argument gets tricky is that some research has demonstrated that genetic factors are generally more important in such characteristics as intelligence or

Citizen Kane

Citizen Kane

The film, Citizen Kane, is about a man whose life is based on his wealth and fame. There are many film techniques used to show Charles Foster Kane?s dominance, and most importantly his relationships. Starting with his childhood, Charles was a very spoiled kid. He whined until he got what he wanted. At a young age, Charles was adopted away from his family, so, he could go to the city and become a wealthy man. Due to this situation, he really never developed a strong relationship with his parents, particularly his father. The film uses wonderful technique to illustrate the absent relationship between Charles Kane and Mr. Kane.
There are two scenes, back to back, that depict Charles and his father?s relationship. In the first scene, Mr. Kane is discussing with Charles? foster father about Charles and what they plan to do with him in the future. This scene happens to be shot in deep focus, which allows you to vividly capture the composition of the background. In the background, Charles is playing out in the snow, and he appears to be a great distance from his father. This

Dilemma- Taken from: Business Ethics – Ethical Decision Making and Cases A Real Life Situation pages 62-63 By: O.C. Farrell & John Fraedrich After three years with the company, Sandy was promoted to assistant plant manager. This was a big step for Unity Welding and Construction, as well as for the industry; Sandy was one of only a handful of women who had broken through the ?glass ceiling? and made their way into management. She had proved to the men around her that she deserved the job, and she was now being toasted by assistant managers from other plants across the country John, her boss, had been her advocate with the company. He had personally lobbied upper management in her behalf. Unity Welding and Construction is a national firm with twenty fabrication plants, primarily in the South. The company does contract work for other companies that require welding or fabrication of metals into items used in the construction of aircraft, ships, bridges, and component parts for consumer durables. Each plant caters to specific industries. Sandy?s plant produces parts primarily for the automotive industry and is located in Arizona. Arizona is perfect for Sandy because of her
