Global Warming

Global Warming

Global warming is a critical issue that concerns many people. The greatest problem that we have is that we are uncertain about the effects that global warming will cause. We are not sure what will happen to the climate and how things will be able to adapt to it. The uncertainty is due to the fact we cannot tell if global warming has had any direct environmental impact, because human activity has been largely responsible for the environmental destruction.
The average surface air temperature has increased by about 0.6 degrees Celsius in the last century. Interestingly, this occurred in three phases: a relatively rapid rise of 0.4 degrees between about 1910 and 1940, a surprising plateau between 1940 and 1975, and another rise of about 0.2 degrees Celsius between 1975 and the 1990?s. Nine of the eleven hottest years in the twentieth century have occurred in the last ten years. In addition, studies done on tree rings, corals, ice cores, and historical data prove that the 1990?s are the warmest decade in at least the last 1000 years. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change foresees an increase of one degree Celsius to 3.5 degrees

Physical Simulation

The physical simulation that I tried was taping my thumbs to the palm of my hand. First, I taped my thumbs while I was in my dorm room. I then proceeded to change my clothes. First, it was a little difficult putting on my pants and buttoning my pants. Putting my belt on was a difficult task as well. Putting my shirt on wasn?t hard but trying to zip up my jacket was a difficult task. Then, I went down to the cafeteria to get some food. I made a cold sandwich, which consisted of turkey, cheese, mayo, tomato, and lettuce. It wasn?t very difficult preparing the sandwich. Putting the mayo on was probably the most difficult part of making the sandwich. I had to use both hands to squeeze the bottle to squirt the mayo out of the bottle. It was to a point of almost embarrassment because people were looking at me. I could see that people were watching me. There was a girl next to me making a sandwich and she was sort of laughing. I told her that this was an

Friday
The movie Friday was one of the best comedies I have ever seen, but it also depicts many important social issues. The story is set in the city of Los Angeles, California. In what could be called a high-class ghetto. It was by far the most hilarious movie of the decade. I have never laughed so hard in all of my life. I liked the movie Friday because it had a great director, a talented cast, a good plot, and a spectacular soundtrack.
As with any successful movie you must have a good Quentin Terintino, Mel Brooks, or Stephen Spilburg working behind the scenes. This film had a gifted director by the name of F. Gary Gray. I personally think that he is one of the best directors ever. He has directed box office hits Set It Off and The Negotiator. The movie set it off grossed over 200 million dollars, and The Negotiator was not that far behind. He usually does the serious type movies, but he proves that he is versatile in this one.
The cast of the movie was sensational. Playing the main character was famous musician and actor, Ice Cube. He is such a serious person

Global Warming

There is a serious problem in every community today that many people do not pay much attention to or do not even realize it is much of a problem. In my opinion it is just as serious as any war or issue on drugs and violence. I say this because if we do not act now our future generations will suffer greatly from the growing problem of Global Warming. About ten to twenty years ago the whole theory of global warming was just that a theory. But today there is overwhelming proof that this is nothing to take lightly. We are all guilty of contributing to the effects of Global Warming; in the United States alone each person emits 6.6 tons of green house gases every year. After reading this paper you will say to yourself, ?What can I do to help this problem?, well there are several things you can do to fight global warming. Even though global warming affects the entire world population the only way to fight the dilemma is for every town or city to work together to solve this problem and it is every communities responsibility

Child Growth & Development Article Review

Child Growth & Development Article Review

The article I choose to review was titled Resilience in Preschoolers and Toddlers from Low-Income Families. In this article it discusses how children are capable of overcoming a rough childhood. Most children that were observed were children who grew up in poverty, or who were exposed to severe adversity or trauma. Gender and ethnicity affect the child?s development as well. Harsh parenting is a factor that can lead to the inability of children to become resilient. Even children who are harshly treated can turn out to be a so called ?normal? child. Studies say that all it takes is one person such as a teacher or doctor who treats them with care and makes them feel special to cause a positive change to occur.

Stephen King

Stephen King

King believes that violence is a part of all of us and that violent films are used as outlets for that violence. It is a way of expressing violence without actually acting on the violent behavior and ??it keeps them[aggressive behaviors] from getting out? (335).

However, Stephen King appeals to the readers emotion and assumes that violent behavior is an innate part of every human. King gives no real evidence that violence is due the inner-being of the person.

Global Warming

What is global warming, and how is it affecting the Earth and its inhabitants Global Warming is sometimes referred to as the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the absorption of energy radiated from the Earths surface by carbon dioxide and other gases in the atmosphere, causing the atmosphere to become warmer. The greenhouse effect is what is causing the temperature on the Earth to rise, and creating many problems that will begin to occur in the coming decades. For the last 10,000 years, the Earths climate has been extraordinarily beneficial to mankind. “Humans have prospered tremendously well under a benign atmosphere,” (Bates 28).

Today, however, major changes are taking place. People are conducting an inadvertent global experiment by changing the face of the entire planet. We are destroying the ozone layer, which allows life to exist on the Earths surface. All of these activities are unfavorably altering the composition of the biosphere and the Earths heat balance. If we do not slow down our use of fossil fuels and stop destroying, the forests, the world could become hotter than it has been in the past million years. Group Work

Group Work

Group work can be an inequitable experience for students that are especially concerned with the grade they will be receiving. When a student feels extremely pressured to receive full marks, she will not trust his fellow classmates to put in their best effort. Instead, she will oversee their work, and sometimes even do the entire project himself. This is also a detriment to the lazier student who will take advantage of her driven friend and will lose out on the learning experience by allowing her to do all the work.
The above complications can also result in an unfair distribution of grades. There is no fool-proof system of knowing who did the most work, the quality work, and which parts of the product belong to which student.

Kill Your TV

Kill Your TV

?Television in the main is being used to distract, delude, amuse, and insulate us.?1 This quote by Edward R Murrow, vividly identifies television as a major concern for our society?s well being, as well as for the rest of the world. Most importantly, it seems that the youth of America (ages 2-17) are being more readily affected by the ?boob tube? than any other age group in the United States. In recent studies, it shows that television consumption averages twenty-five hours per week for two through five year-olds, while six through eleven year-olds watch twenty-two hours per week, and twelve through seventeen year-olds watch twenty-three hours.2 Newton Minnow, former Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission states the following:

?By the time most Americans are eighteen years old, they have spent more time in front of the television set than they have spent in school, and far more than they have spent talking with their teachers, their friends, or even their parents.?3

By far, the most disconcerting is a study by the American Academy of Pediatrics, which shows that a person will have spent approximately seven years watching television by the age of seventy.4 While the amount of television that is

Global Warming

Global Warming

Global warming is the warming near the earths surface that results when the earths atmosphere traps the suns heat. The earth is getting warmer. The changes are small, so far, but they are expected to grow and speed up. Within the next fifty to one hundred years, the earth may be hotter than it has been in the past million years. As oceans warm and glaciers melt, land and cities along coasts may be flooded. Heat and drought may cause forests to die and food crops to fail. Global warming will affect weather everywhere, plants and animals everywhere, people everywhere; humans are warming the earths atmosphere by burning fuels, cutting down forest, and by taking part in other activities that release certain heat trapping gases into the air.
One major cause of global warming is the use of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas that were formed from the remains of plant material deposited during the earths carboniferous period. We have known for only a few thousand years that coal, oil, and natural gas can be burned to provide energy. It was not until the mid-1800s, however, that
